THINGS TO KNOW
we donate 10% of profit to two local charities
We don’t share this loudly or frequently enough, but we donate 10% of profit to Ozone House and The Hope Clinic annually at year end. We also support other events and fundraisers throughout the year as we are asked and/or need arises. We care a lot about people over profit and proactively giving back to those within our community.
WE ARE A TAIWANESE AMERICAN BAKERY
We are an Asian American bakery, specifically Taiwanese American. Some of the ingredients and flavors we use may be unfamiliar, so feel free to ask! For our baked goods, we pull flavor inspiration from all different regions of Asia. Our retail shelves are stocked with almost 100% Taiwanese product. For our savory food specials, we focus on Taiwanese and Chinese cuisine with a twist.
We HAVE A VERY SMALL TEAM
We are a tiny business with a team of one owner-operator and three full-time and five part-time staff. Even on our busiest days, we have at most seven people working, split between the kitchen and storefront. We love that we are a tight-knit team and you see the same faces every time you come in.
We strive for different service industry standards
The service industry is notorious for providing poor wages (relying on tipping culture), toxic work environments, and a lot of turnover. All of our staff are paid above minimum wage ($16/hr base wage). All tips are pooled and split evenly on top of that. Everyone gets paid time off, paid sick time, and paid major holidays. Our full time staff are salaried and have healthcare benefits. The way we operate our kitchen environment is one that is respectful, encouraging, and positive. There is never any yelling, putting people down, or ego involved. The goal is to provide a healthy and stable working environment that people enjoy coming to each day. We know there is more we can do and offer as time goes on. Whenever you support Q, this is the culture that you are helping to foster!
WE make everything ON SITE
We bake and cook everything on site in our scrappy commercial kitchen that is below the storefront in the basement. You’ll often see one of us climb up the stairs with straight-from-the-oven sheet pans to restock our display counter!
WE make everything by hand & in small batches
We are not a large production facility manufacturing thousands of products each day. Part of our charm (we think) is that every item is made from scratch by hand, baked fresh in the morning and then throughout the day. We have no heavy-duty machinery, just some stand mixers and a small countertop sheeter. Every scone is hand-shaped and cut. Every milk bun is individually portioned, shaped, and egg-washed by hand. Every dumpling is hand filled and pleated. Our lunch and brunch specials are all cooked by one person. This is all an extensive labor of love. There is only so much we can make each day when we do it this way which is why we often sell out of items. We realize this is not practical to churn out tons of product, but in a day and age where seemingly everything is mass-produced, we strongly believe this is what makes our products stand out in terms of quality.
BEST TIMES TO VISIT FOR FULL MENU SELECTION
Friday and the weekend are our busiest days, especially between 9AM-12PM. There are longer lines and it is likely we may be sold out of some items on our menu. We highly recommend you come in on a weekday and/or early to guarantee the best selection. Our frozen dumplings tend to sell out quickly so we recommend coming in first thing for those. Because we continue to bake items throughout the day, there may be times where a certain item is temporarily sold out while we are waiting to restock. We will always let you know how long the wait will be before something comes out of the oven. Our Instagram stories is the best place to check if we are sold out for the day.
PREORDERING/LARGE ORDERS
We do not accept preorders except for cakes. If you would ever like to check if something is available before making the trip over, please text 734-210-1683 (DO NOT call, we do not have phone service in the kitchen) and someone will get back to you. If you would like to place a larger order in advance (over 30 items), please email us. We kindly ask for at least a week’s notice.
